Rain Flower installation at Lane Crawford stores

Location: Lane Crawford Store in IFC, and Canton Road, Hong Kong SAR, Beijing and Chengdu, PRC / Scope: Shopfront and Visual Merchandise Design at Lane Crawford stores / Year: 2015

To coincide with the 165 year anniversary of the retail outlet Lane Crawford with innovation at the heart of the brand, SKY YUTAKA developed Rain Flower kinetic installations for the shopfront of selected stores in Hong Kong which were subsequently rolled out to other stores in Beijing and Chengdu, across total of 6 locations.

Triggered by water sensors and reflective glass plates containing constant circulation of water representing the rainfall, the Rain Flower responds to the flow of water by gently opening and closing its petals repeatedly to provide protection or protect itself from the elements. All the kinetic motions are achieved through use of series of carefully adjusted counterweight mechanism with minimum use of energy to perform its protective movement cycles to captive audiences and people passing by.
