Yantai Jinsha Bay Resort
Location: Yantai, PRC / Scope: Masterplan, Site Area 314,610sqm / Year: 2014-2015
Masterplan proposal for 4no. of land plots totaling 314,610sqm of site areas which are sandwiched between sleepy seaside facing Jinsha Bay to the north and major access road running along the southern portion of the land with Beishan Mountain beyond. The planning parameter for this mixed-use development comprises of resort and hospitality zone including boutique hotel and unique guest houses with tea-house pavilions placed amongst densely planted pine forest along the coast and residential and mixed-use commercial development zone set against the backdrop of the hills towards the south. The planning strategy sets out to incorporate various landscape strategies inspired by traditional Asian landscape ideas and architecture that respect geographical site context and resonate with local climate with the four distinctive seasonal variations.
Exploring existing vistas combined with new design features creating unique landscape setting with scenery borrowed from the beautiful surrounding context, including vistas and view of the mountain framed by the forest, meandering pathways with sound of the sea waves guiding the guest through series of courtyard framed by both soft landscaping and architecture. The design explored mixture of modern architecture with focus on conservation that responds to strong local context fused with the traditional Asian landscape wisdom and culture. The proposal attempts to retain much of the local traditions and customs against the backdrop of modernization, the planning framework aspired to a placemaking that would contribute to the local community while inviting the international visitors to share and experience the local culture.
