Co-Creating Hong Kong Design+
Co-creating HK Design+ exhibition is part of a wider cultural exchange programme organised by Hong Kong Design Centre to promote HK's creative talent and exchange of ideas with design communities. The programme includes the design exchange tour of San Francisco and Los Angeles with delegates from Hong Kong and two exhibitions held one in San Francisco and another in Hong Kong as part of DesignInspire event at the Hong Kong Convention Centre.
To manage the challenge of project coordination and the exhibition installation process SKY YUTAKA designed series of display system with CNC milling utilizing digital fabrication process. Inspired by traditional joinery, the display system components comprise of various joints and slot design without nails or glue. To minimise wastage from the milling process, the cut-out from standard 4x8 plywood panels were re-used for ceiling panels, again with the use of only slot and pin joints, which contributed to creation of a unique atmosphere where various geometries in the ceiling cut-outs have direct relationship to the display systems below.
