Alumni Garden

Project Details
The landscape design encompasses a 2,600 square metre garden that seamlessly integrates water features, seating, signage, and commissioned artwork. The garden is an integral component of the wider Caring Alumni Eco-trail within the university campus, which boasts a diverse array of flora and fauna, including over 200 plant species, common trees, and rare varieties.
Commissioned in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), this garden serves as a testament to the invaluable contributions of alumni over the past five decades. The design incorporates the planting of 51 new trees and the creation of an amenity area for the university community and students.
“The Integration,” a celebrated contemporary sculpture by Professor Wu Weishan, was commissioned and installed at the centre of the Garden. The central landscape water feature draws inspiration from the ancient Chinese game of Qu Shui Liu Shang (曲水流觞). Participants would sit along the stream and partake in beverages when they randomly stopped in front of them, believing this act could ward off adverse fortune. It was envisaged that during the ceremony, the university could host its own Qu Shui Liu Shang by arranging musicians and composing poems along the water stream.
