Rain Flower

Project Details
The commissioned installation celebrates the evolution of Lane Crawford 165th anniversary with installation across number of stores.
Triggered by water sensors and reflective glass plates containing constant circulation of water, which represent rainfall, the Rain Flower responds to the flow of water by gently opening and closing its petals repeatedly to provide protection or protect itself from the elements. All the kinetic motions are achieved through the use of a series of carefully adjusted counterweight mechanisms, ensuring that it uses the minimum amount of energy to perform its protective movements. The kinetic installation is predicated on the practice’s ongoing preoccupation with responsive architecture.
