Co-creating HK Design+

Co-creating HK Design+ exhibition forms a key component of a broader cultural exchange programme led by the Hong Kong Design Centre. The initiative aims to support Hong Kong’s creative talent while fostering dialogue with international design communities. It includes a design exchange tour to San Francisco and Los Angeles, attended by delegates from Hong Kong, alongside the organisation of two exhibitions, one in San Francisco and one in Hong Kong, both integral to the DesignInspire event at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

In close collaboration with fabricators in both San Francisco and Hong Kong, SKY YUTAKA played a central role in managing the exhibition installation and developing a series of CNC-milled display systems. Drawing inspiration from traditional joinery, the components employ a range of interlocking joints and slot systems, eliminating the need for nails or adhesives. To minimise material waste during fabrication, cut-outs from standard 4 × 8 plywood sheets were repurposed as ceiling panels. Using the same slot-and-pin logic, these elements contribute to a cohesive spatial language, where the geometry of the ceiling panels establishes a direct visual and structural dialogue with the display systems below.
