Tung Chung River Park Visitor Centre

Project Details
The Tung Chung River Park Visitor Centre is part of a wider NEC engineering project designed to restore a section of the Tung Chung Stream to its natural state and promote water-friendly recreation and conservation park. Approximately 600 metres of the stream will be revitalised with 415 metres developed into the river park. The project aims to restore the stream’s natural ecological setting through re-greening of the river channel, enhance biodiversity and create a space for water-friendly activities such as leisure walks, nature appreciation and environmental education.
SKY YUTAKA collaborated closely with the client and organiser CEDD, DSD and the main engineering consultant ARUP to design and curate the gallery space within the visitor park facility. This unique building dedicated to environmental education promotes community engagement and provides a unique insight into the world of Tung Chung’s stream ecology. The River Park will become integral part of the wider stream networks and is connected to one of 33 Environmental Important Streams (EISS) in Hong Kong.
The visitor centre programme incorporates community facility for cross-generational environmental education promoting conservation efforts and fostering an appreciation for ecology with biodiversity and sustainable legacy for future generations.
