Project Details

SKY YUTAKA provided exhibition design services for Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008, a two-part exhibition spanning one year and presenting over 50-70 works per chapter by more than 70 artists. The exhibition explores internet culture, AI, online communities, and shifting labour conditions, prompting reflection on the connections between digital and physical realms alongside an accompanying programme of public events and publications.

Responding to the curatorial vision of a dispersed cultural landscape, the design strategy foregrounded flexibility, continuity, and adaptability. A modular “kit-of-parts” system, comprising reconfigurable wall partitions, furniture, and display elements, was developed to enable multiple spatial configurations across both chapters. This approach allowed artworks to be interwoven throughout the gallery while supporting diverse curatorial narratives.

The design process was intentionally iterative, with spatial planning evolving in parallel with curatorial development. Modular components were repeatedly tested, rearranged, and recalibrated to accommodate shifting exhibition requirements. This ensured both efficiency and coherence across different phases while reinforcing the exhibition’s core theme of dynamic, interwoven storytelling.
