M+ Museum Learning & Interpretation Space

Project Details
Breakout Space, a series of rooms and areas across the M+ Museum of visual art. Each spaces are curated to suit the narrative of each galleries, they invite interaction by asking relevant questions in response to the gallery themes and will evolve as the content develops. With diverse collections interpreting visual art, design, architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, Breakout Space activities include drawing curated postcards, composing poems on a wall, making video responses to artist recordings, interacting with commissioned sound art installations, and model making.
Since collaborating with M+ on the Mobile M+ Moving Images (2015) and the West Kowloon Cultural District’s ‘Cultural Hong Kong’ exhibition (2017), SKY YUTAKA continued to develop the four distinctive Breakout Learning and Interpretation spaces in 2019. A series of bespoke furnishings and display systems were carefully designed for each space, including modular plywood seating fabricated using CNC processing, magnetic wordplay wall panels, video booth enclosures, and series of acrylic stationary casing.
